Metal profiles are the structural backbone of every gypsum wall partition, suspended ceiling, and soffit installation. Without correctly specified and installed metal framing, gypsum boards cannot perform to their rated fire, acoustic, or structural standards. Quadro 360 Installations & Supplies both supplies and installs metal profiles and structure in Malta for residential, commercial, and hospitality projects across the island.
We stock a full range of galvanised steel profiles at our warehouse in Mriehel, Birkirkara, and deliver directly to project sites anywhere in Malta. Whether you are a contractor purchasing materials or a developer requiring a complete supply-and-install service, Quadro 360 provides the right profiles for the job.
Types of Metal Profiles We Supply
Studs (CW Profiles)
CW (C-shaped wall) studs are the vertical members in a wall partition system. They slot into the floor and ceiling tracks and carry the gypsum board cladding. Studs are available in widths of 48mm, 50mm, 70mm, 75mm, and 100mm, allowing builders to match the partition thickness to acoustic, fire, and structural requirements. Wider studs accommodate thicker insulation and provide greater sound reduction between rooms.
Tracks (UW Profiles)
UW (U-shaped wall) tracks are fixed to the floor and ceiling to form the top and bottom rails of the partition frame. The CW studs slide into these tracks, creating a rigid framework. Tracks are sized to match the corresponding stud width and are fixed with appropriate anchors depending on the substrate: concrete nails for screed floors, expansion bolts for concrete ceilings, or screws for steel structures.
Ceiling Channels (CD Profiles)
CD profiles are the primary load-bearing members in suspended ceiling systems. They are hung from the structural slab using direct hangers or nonius hangers and support the gypsum board from below. CD profiles are spaced at intervals determined by the board type and span, typically 400mm or 600mm centres.
Ceiling Tracks (UD Profiles)
UD perimeter tracks are fixed around the room's walls at the desired ceiling height. CD profiles are then connected to these tracks, creating a level grid across the ceiling area. UD tracks ensure a clean, straight edge where the ceiling meets the wall.
Resilient Channels & Accessories
Resilient channels are used to decouple the gypsum board from the metal frame, significantly improving acoustic performance. Additional accessories include:
- Direct hangers: For suspending CD profiles from the slab at short drop distances.
- Nonius hangers: Adjustable hangers for greater drop distances, commonly used in commercial ceilings.
- Cross connectors: For joining CD profiles at right angles in a ceiling grid.
- Angle profiles: For corner reinforcement and edge finishing.
- Acoustic isolation strips: Self-adhesive foam strips applied to tracks before fixing, reducing vibration transfer through the frame.
Metal Structure for Wall Partitions
Wall partition framing is the most common application for metal profiles in Malta. The system works as follows:
- Layout marking: The partition line is marked on the floor and ceiling using a laser level.
- Track installation: UW tracks are fixed along the marked lines with acoustic isolation strips beneath.
- Stud placement: CW studs are cut to height and placed into the tracks at 400mm or 600mm centres.
- Service integration: Electrical conduits, plumbing, and data cables are routed through the stud openings before boarding.
- Insulation: Rock wool or glass wool is placed between the studs for acoustic and thermal performance.
- Board fixing: Gypsum boards are screwed to the studs, completing the partition.
Quadro 360 has installed metal framing systems in projects ranging from single-apartment renovations to large-scale developments. The metal structure determines the quality of the finished partition, so precision in cutting, levelling, and spacing is essential.
Metal Structure for Soffits & Ceilings
Soffit and ceiling installations require a different framing approach. The metal framework must be suspended from the structural slab at precise levels, accommodating services such as ducted air conditioning, sprinkler pipes, and lighting.
Key considerations for ceiling metal structure include:
- Drop distance: The gap between the structural slab and the finished ceiling determines the hanger type.
- Load capacity: Heavier ceiling boards or double-layer systems require closer hanger spacing.
- Levelling: Nonius hangers allow fine adjustment to achieve a perfectly level ceiling across large spans.
- Access panels: Framing must accommodate access hatches for maintenance of services above the ceiling.
In hospitality and commercial projects, ceiling framing often follows complex layouts with bulkheads, changes in level, and curved sections. Quadro 360 has the experience to execute these designs accurately.
